Mitsubishi Q Series PLC Digital Input Modules

How to use Mitsubishi Q Series PLC Digital Input Modules?

Mitsubishi Q Series PLC falls under the category of modular PLCs. In the previous articles, we discussed the power module, CPU module, and backplane. In today's article, we will focus on the Q Series PLC Digital Input Modules.

The digital input modules of the Q Series PLC come in various types. Depending on the operating voltage, they can be categorized into Direct Current (DC) input modules and Alternating Current (AC) input modules. For example, the QX10 AC operates with a voltage range of 100-120V AC and a frequency of 50/60 Hz. On the other hand, the QX40 DC operates with a direct current voltage of 24V. The appearance of QX10 AC and QX40 DC is illustrated in the following diagram:

Based on the common terminal wiring, these modules can be further classified into Positive Common Type and Negative Common Type. For instance, the QX40 DC is a Positive Common Type module, while the QX80 DC is a Negative Common Type module. The visual representation of the QX80 DC is depicted in the following diagram:

According to the response speed to the input signal state (ON/OFF), these modules can be categorized as ordinary input modules and high-speed input modules. The response time of the high-speed input modules, from OFF to ON, ranges between 0.04 to 0.5 ms. The module names for high-speed input modules end with the letter "H," such as QX40H, QX70H, QX80H, and QX90H.

Now, let's take QX80 DC as an example to examine the terminal distribution, corresponding input devices, and wiring diagram of the digital input module:

QX80 DC has a total of 16 input channels, operates with a voltage of DC 24V, and has a maximum input current of 4mA. It can be connected to 18-point terminal blocks (TB1~TB18), with TB18 serving as the common terminal (negative). When all channels are activated, it consumes 50mA of 5V baseboard current. The corresponding input devices for the wiring terminals are illustrated in the diagram below:

The wiring diagram for the input channels of the QX80 DC is as follows:

If you are using the QX40 DC, please be aware that it is a Positive Common Type module, and its common terminal is TB17 (positive). The wiring diagram for the QX40 DC is different from the QX80 DC and is illustrated below:
